Job Overview

We are seeking an Intern - Systems Development, Verification and Test Engineering for Summer 2024 at our Stennis Space Center, MS location.

After orientation and training, the intern will perform entry-level engineering tasks on rocket propulsion projects. This position will support senior engineering staff and gain experience and familiarization with Aerojet Rocketdyne projects. This internship position is expected to start in approximately May/June and last for 10-12 weeks.

Essential Functions

60% - Issuing detailed work instructions, based on specific pre-determined requirements and knowledge of systems and system components as well, to support and document checkout and test activities.


15% - Gain experience and expertise in performing RS-25 Post Test Inspections and processing requirements, and familiarity with RS-25 hardware.


5% - Coordination of day to day program needs ranging from design changes to hardware and software changes, attending meetings to assure that planned direction is in the best interest of the program and the customer.


5% - Coordination of disposition of Nonconformance documents for nonconforming engine and facility-based systems. Manage and track anomalies to ensure proper disposition or closure prior to test or delivery.


5% - Troubleshoot anomalies with personnel representing other internal and external customer organizations.


5% - Participate on corrective action teams and specifically driving continuous improvement throughout all site processes.


5% - Monitoring engine operational parameters during rocket engine chill and hotfire test.

Requirements

Candidate must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering (or similar major) and returning to school upon completion of the assignment.

Preferred Qualifications

3.2 GPA or above

Junior standing or above

Solid academic track record of accomplishment

Working knowledge of Microsoft Software applications, particularly Excel & Word

Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

Self-starter with the ability to work with little direction

Leadership & teamwork skills

Knowledge of commercial CAD software such as Creo Parametric, Pro-Engineering, CATIA and/or Unigraphics

Requires U.S. Citizenship or status as a U.S. Person. Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
