GENERAL FUNCTION: A Mechanical Engineer II is responsible for the design of a vessel's propulsion and auxiliary systems, piping and HVAC.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND JOB FUNCTIONS
* Coordinates with personnel in other disciplines, such as electrical engineers and naval architects.
* Designs products or systems such as instruments, controls, engines, machines, and mechanical, thermal, hydraulic or heat transfer systems.
* Directs and coordinates activities involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and repair of mechanical or electromechanical products and systems for use onboard vessels.
* Researches and analyzes data, such as customer design proposals, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application.
* Guides personnel in fabrication of test control apparatus and equipment and development of testing methods and procedures.
* Ensures that products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications.
* May design products and systems to interface machines, hardware, and software.
* May evaluate field installations and recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions.
